“Kunlun has its own style. It’s interesting to play with them.” – Rotenberg, SKA coach

The head coach SKA Romain Rotenberg after the victory overKunlun ” said that the Chinese team has its own style, which makes it interesting to play with them.

On Wednesday, SKA defeated Kunlun on the road with a score of 6:3 in the Fonbet KHL championship match. After the first half, Rotenberg’s team lost 1:3.

– Difficult game, good opponent. They started very well and created a lot of difficulties for us. We expected such a match. Of course, there aren’t enough spectators, it was difficult for the guys to have emotions. I hope fans will come to Mytishchi in the future. We are used to playing in front of full stands.

We had to work hard during the match, we made changes. Our rookie goalie Moisevich played well. I came, I saw, I conquered, well done. Their style is similar to that of Mikko Koskinen. Mikko had a losing streak in the regular season, so many wondered if we needed such a goalie. And then he won two Gagarin Cups. A big thank you to our keepers. It’s not Pleshkov’s fault that this happened. We replaced him to boost team morale.

— At one point you took Koskinen as the main player, and Moisevich was fourth in the club hierarchy. How was it included?

– There is such an interesting story here. When I went to Stupino, Pleshkov and Pasha played there. They both play as a duo, both are good goalkeepers. There is no progress in life or in sports. A man goes out and wins, everything is simple here. Time will tell: competition is the engine of progress. Moisevich helped us today. He beat Tambov yesterday and came to us, we called him. We continue to work. We have competition in all sectors. You saw it all yourself. Moisevich made the most important saves. His first shot in the KHL was a one-on-one, and he succeeded. We have a solid goalkeeper coach this season. We work with all players.

— You made your debut here as head coach. Is Mytishchi a special place for you?

— I think everyone remembers their first match for the rest of their life. I remember my first match as a child, my training. I then walked out the door. But I was 10, it was too late to start as a goalkeeper. Then they threw it at my head and I decided I had a better chance on the field. Of course, it is an honor for me to be the head coach of SKA. We do not have a single tactical program. We change tactics as the matches progress. Today, in the first half, there was only one team. Our team is a cameo. Of course, it’s better not to come to that.

How did I start following hockey? I watched it on TV. The more hockey we show on federal television, the better the ice and the refereeing, the more children we will have who want to play hockey. Sooner we will return to the international scene. We want to beat Canada, we have a debt. We will get it back. We have a lot of things to improve, a lot of details.

— “Kunlun” could return to China. How do you see this situation?

— It is very important that a Chinese team plays in our championship. We have international teams in the league. Different styles, in such matches players develop. Kunlun has its own style, many players come from Canada. They are fun to play with. I believe that “Kunlun” is China, Shanghai. Mytishchi is neither Shanghai nor Beijing. I have traveled to China several times with the team and things are not easy there. A big ask of my colleagues is that if they come back, there are spectators there. There are more spectators in Mytishchi than there. Nobody went there, even to the press conferences. We have to work with this.

I think at the state level, they’re moving toward that in China. They have taken a big step forward in basketball. I think in hockey they can take this step too. If we play in China, that’s true. Maybe “Kunlun” will bring together the strongest team and the audience will gather there. They have an excellent arena, built for the Olympics. You can play it at the NHL level. I don’t see anything wrong with playing in China. The main thing is that there are spectators,” reports a correspondent, reporting Rotenberg’s comments.
