Russian Podkolzin left the ice on a stretcher after suffering a head injury during an AHL game

Russian attacker Vasily Podkolzin suffered a head injury during a game for the Abbotsford Canucks in the American Hockey League (AHL), the Canucks Army reports.

The day before, the Vancouver farm club had beaten the Colorado Eagles with a score of 5:2. Late in the third period, Podkolzin hit the boards after colliding with Eagles defenseman Keaton Middleton and fell to the ice.

The forward was taken off the ice on a stretcher. Middleton received a five-minute penalty for this episode.

Last season, 22-year-old Podkolzin played 39 games in the NHL regular season, scoring 7 points (4 goals and 3 assists). In total, he has 118 games and 33 points (18+15) in the NHL.
