National team goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov has been threatened with a criminal term if he wants to leave.

The goalkeeper of the Russian national hockey team could suffer badly because of his desire to leave the country and play in the strongest league on the planet – the American NHL.

According to Russian media reports, Ivan Fedotov was arrested and charged with draft evasion. Under this article, the athlete faces up to two years in prison.

This happened in St. Louis. Petersburg near one of the city’s ice arenas, where he conducted individual training sessions to prepare for the 2022/2023 season.

After the arrest, the hockey player was sent to the draft board, where he fell ill. Fedotov was hospitalized at the Naval Hospital of St. Petersburg. Petersburg. However, he did not stay there, and that night the goalkeeper was taken to Severomorsk, located in the Murmansk region on the Kola Peninsula, 1300 km from the hospital.

“Ivan was sent at night, probably to Severomorsk. At night they released him from the hospital, and then there was no information,” said the athlete’s lawyer Alexei Ponomarev.

At the same time, the TASS agency, citing its sources, reports that the 25-year-old hockey player will serve in the army in Novaya Zemlya, an archipelago in the Arctic Ocean. Such punishment was provided for him to suppress the desire to leave the country.

Note that in the Russian Federation the draft age is 27 years, so Fedotov is subject to the law. While the hockey player was playing as part of CSKA, the leadership turned a blind eye to the breach. However, when he decided to leave for America, they remembered that the hockey player was responsible for military service.

As part of CSKA, the goalkeeper won the Gagarin Cup at the end of the 2021/22 season. He then signed with the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers, picking him 188th overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. As part of the Russian national team, Fedotov became a silver medalist of the Beijing Olympics.
