The meeting in New York ended with a score of 3:2 in favor of the hosts. In the second period, Brännström, 24, collided with forward Cal Clutterbuck and hit his head on the ice. Doctors needed a stretcher to remove the Swede from the arena.

The Senators’ press office reported that Brennstrom was taken to hospital and is conscious and able to move his limbs. The hockey player will spend the night under medical supervision.

“Obviously, it was emotional for the guys and everyone involved in the meeting. We are waiting for news. He’s looking good right now, so that’s positive, but we’ll wait for news,” said Ottawa coach DJ Smith.

It was Brannström’s seventh game of the season.
