Athletistic / Hockey. The New Jersey Devils defeated the Buffalo Sabers (5:4) last night in an NHL regular season home game. Forward Jack Hughes played another excellent match for the winners.
The 22-year-old American converted the power play early in the third period and scored his 18th point this NHL season. At present, Hughes has 18 points (5+13) in the goal+pass system. It only took him seven matches. Thus, Jack set the best points record in the NHL in seven games since the start of the season in the 21st century.
Over the past 40 years, only three hockey players have managed to score more points during a similar period of the season. In 1988, Mario Lemieux scored an incredible 26 points in seven games. Four years later, he managed to score 22 points, and in 1986, the legendary Canadian scored 19 points. Wayne Gretzky scored 21 points in 1984 and 1986, and 20 in 1983. Also in that company is Brent Sutter with 21 points in 1984.
