Three-time Olympic figure skating champion and State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina commented on the situation with the goalkeeper of the Russian national hockey team Ivan Fedotov .
On Friday July 1, 25-year-old Fedotov was arrested in St. Petersburg on suspicion of escaping military service. The hockey player requested medical assistance at the assembly point of the military registration and enlistment office, after which he was taken to Botkin Infectious Diseases Hospital. Then the player was sent for further examination to the military medical academy and then to the naval hospital. Later, Fedotov’s lawyer Alexei Ponomarev reported that his client had an exacerbation of gastritis against the background of a nervous breakdown.
“There have been many such cases in the history of sports. Take, for example, the situation with Fetisov, who did not escape anywhere, but allowed himself to sign a contract with the NHL. I think Fedotov has about the same situation, only Fetisov was an officer at that time, moreover, at 25, playing for CSKA, couldn’t he do his military service? From yourself. Being a CSKA player, not going through a sports company, what is it? Let’s hope that its Russian laws do not apply? – quotes the words of Rodnina “Gazeta.Ru”.
In early May, it became known that Fedotov moved to Philadelphia, signing a one-year contract. Last season, the goalkeeper played for CSKA and won the 2022 Gagarin Cup with the team.
