Vyacheslav Fetisov said that in the situation with Fedotov the law is not on the side of the goalkeeper

Double Olympic ice hockey champion Vyacheslav Fetisov told Gazeta.ru that in the situation with the goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov the law is not on his side, since all male citizens of Russia are required to do compulsory military service, if there are no restrictions.

On Friday July 1, 25-year-old Fedotov was arrested in St. Petersburg on suspicion of escaping military service. The hockey player requested medical assistance at the assembly point of the military registration and enlistment office, after which he was taken to Botkin Infectious Diseases Hospital. Then the player was sent for further examination to the military medical academy and then to the naval hospital. Later, Fedotov’s lawyer Alexei Ponomarev reported that his client had an exacerbation of gastritis against the background of a nervous breakdown.

When was he to serve in the army? During the Gagarin Cup to go to the army? I don’t even know what to say about it. All athletes, as citizens of the Russian Federation, are required to perform military service and fulfill their duty to their homeland. At one time there was a system, there were officers in CSKA. Other teams also thought about it in advance, and at the age of the draft, the guys, to one degree or another, paid off their debt to their country. However, this system does not exist as such.

The topic turned out to be resonant, most likely, such a heated discussion could have been avoided. I don’t know if there were any agreements with the club or not, but the law is not on Ivan’s side, unfortunately.

If I understand correctly, Ivan must serve and will not be able to play in the NHL. I don’t know how much this will improve or deteriorate relations with the NHL. Probably, other points come into force here – first of all, compliance with the law. For example, the same Finnish players and other Europeans have constitutional project duties. And before they go somewhere to play, they have to pay their military duty,” Fetisov said.
