Pavel Bure said his son stopped playing hockey to study at school

Member of the Council of the International Hockey Federation (IIHF), world champion and Olympic medalist Pavel Buré told that his son Pavel Bure Jr. stopped playing hockey because it was difficult for him to combine training and school.

Bure Jr. studied at the CSKA school.

— Does your son still play hockey?

“He studied with me from the age of four. He is now ten years old. But he hasn’t been going to hockey games since September.

– For what?

– Because we decided that he should devote all his time to school.

— Will this break affect his sporting future?

“I never do anything on a whim.” I make decisions based on my experience and I warn in advance. I told my son at seven years old: “Now you go to school. And I’ll tell you right now: if you don’t follow your lessons, you won’t be able to combine them with hockey, you will have to choose something. And it will be a learning experience.”

At school, they gave him concessions for a few years and saw if he could do both. It was very difficult because it took two and a half hours to get to training. School and hockey in different districts of Moscow. Not long ago I said to my son, “I’ll give you senior year. If you don’t arrive in time, goodbye. And since September 1st, he only goes to school with me.

— And I know a lot of stories from hockey players who say that in their childhood they neglected their studies, spending all their time at the rink. This is why they became great pros.

– I didn’t talk about it on August 31. And for me, this is a fundamental point. Parents can help. But if you fail, your father will guide you where you need to go. And in Soviet times we did not neglect school. Maybe they made concessions to us. And from the age of nine I studied in a sports class. But our teachers always told us that we were studying in a regular secondary school: “If you don’t study well, we won’t let you take training.” And we tried to follow everywhere – we studied, crammed, passed. But you couldn’t score,” Bure told .

Pavel Bure is world champion (1990), silver (1998) and bronze (2002) medalist at the Olympic Games; In the NHL he played for Vancouver, Florida and the Rangers.
