Swedish Washington Capitals forward Niklas Backström announced his career is on hold due to injury. In June 2022, the 35-year-old hockey player underwent surgery on his left hip, due to which he missed most of the 2022/23 NHL season.
“I would say at this point it’s unlikely he plays,” McLellan said, as quoted by the NHL’s official website.
Backstrom has been playing for Washington since 2007. In total, he has played 1,105 NHL games and scored 1,033 (271+762) points.
