Athletistic / Hockey. Russian Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin spoke about his performances for the Russian national team. The 37-year-old hockey player has never refused to join the national team.
“I really hope I still have the chance to play for the Russian national team. I want the World Cup to return. A crazy tournament took place in Toronto in 2016, and now I don’t know why the NHL has it abandoned later. I’m not even upset for myself, but for young Russians, or for those who are a little older, but have not yet had the opportunity to show themselves in tournaments with the participation of all the strongest – Kaprizov, Panarin…
Hockey tournaments with the participation of all the strongest stopped being held much earlier – in 2016. This is not correct! I really hope that everything will return to its place soon, and even if it is neither me nor my generation, young Russians will be able to take part in such competitions. I think they have a chance to win. And we have to take advantage of this opportunity,” Malkin said according to Sport-Express.
Evgeni Malkin is a two-time world champion. Gino has participated in the Olympic Games three times (2006, 2010 and 2014), but has never managed to win an Olympic medal.
By decision of the IIHF, the Russian national hockey team has been suspended from participation in international tournaments since March 2022. A possible lifting of sanctions will be considered in March 2024.
