Goalkeeper of the Russian national ice hockey team Ivan Fedotov just as equal before the law as a student or minister, says head of State Duma committee on physical culture and sports Dmitry Svishchev .
On Friday July 1, 25-year-old Fedotov was arrested in St. Petersburg on suspicion of escaping military service. The hockey player requested medical assistance at the assembly point of the military registration and enlistment office, after which he was taken to Botkin Infectious Diseases Hospital. Then the player was sent for further examination to the military medical academy and then to the naval hospital. Later, Fedotov’s lawyer Alexei Ponomarev reported that his client had an exacerbation of gastritis against the background of a nervous breakdown.
What did the Kremlin say? We are all equal before the law. It doesn’t matter who it is: an athlete, a student or a minister, everyone is equal. Therefore, athletes must comply with the laws of the Russian Federation,” Svishchev told reporters.
