According to the Pittsburgh press service, the official ceremony will take place on February 18, 2024 before the NHL game against the Los Angeles Kings. Jagr will become the third hockey player in club history to have his number retired. Previously, Mario Lemieux and Michel Brière had received a similar honor.

Pittsburgh selected Jagr 5th overall in the 1990 NHL Draft. In total, the forward spent 11 seasons with the Penguins. He participated in 806 matches and scored 1079 (439+640 points).
Jaromir won two Stanley Cups with the club, in 1991 and 1992.
