Hockey players from aggressor countries continue to have to compete only with each other.

Russians and Belarusians will have to continue to compete in hockey only with each other. This decision was taken by the Independent Disciplinary Council of the International Ice Hockey Federation, which rejected the appeals of these countries for suspension of all tournaments. The organization announced this on its official website.

Recall that the IIHF Council made such a decision in February, in response to the Kremlin’s massive invasion of Ukraine that included official Minsk.

In its decision to dismiss the appeal, the Disciplinary Board referred to the fact that this measure was taken not as a penalty, but as a security policy.

The decision was also extended to prevent Russian officials from participating in competitions under the auspices of the IIHF and ban the work of representatives of both aggressor countries as members of various IIHF committees.

The leadership of the International Ice Hockey Federation has already reacted to this decision by an independent body. “We welcome the decision of the independent IIHF Disciplinary Commission, which supported the decision of the IIHF Council to ban the participation of the national teams of Russia and Belarus and cancel two events in the World Championship program to be held in Russia next season,” said IIHF President Luc Tardif.
