Athletistic/Hockey. Bronze medalist of the Judo Olympics, Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Dmitry Nosov commented on the situation with the detention of hockey player Ivan Fedotov, suspected of escaping military service.
“I saw on the news that he had already been sent to serve – they did the right thing. I believe everyone is equal before the law. And if a person has evaded military duty, she was arrested and sent to serve, that’s completely normal and okay,” Nosov said.
On July 1, Ivan Fedotov was arrested in St. Petersburg and taken to the military enlistment office. The former CSKA goaltender was expected to join the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers, but is now set to serve in the Novaya Zemlya archipelago in the Arctic Ocean.
The athlete’s lawyer Alexei Ponomarev has announced a lawsuit demanding that Ivan Fedotov be declared illegal and reverse the decision of the editorial board. The hockey player’s file was also transferred to the military prosecutor’s office.
