Fetisov stressed that he did not agree with the latest statements of the IOC head, in which he noted that sport should be outside of politics, and that the decision to suspend the membership of the Olympic Committee Russian (ROC) at the IOC does not mean automatic sanctions for Russian sports federations.
The former hockey player said that Thomas Bach does not exist for him, because in difficult times, when Olympism can keep hope for the future, he reveals his political position. Fetisov also compared Bach to Luc Tardif, calling them weak and opportunistic, unable to cope with current challenges.
He stressed the importance of the principles of Olympism and lamented the suffering of Russian athletes, saying Bach and Tardif were not responsible to those who dreamed of being part of the Olympic system.
