Fetisov stressed that he believes Tardif is not the right person to lead the IIHF, especially in the difficult times we are currently experiencing. According to him, the unsuccessful choice of president was a consequence of the mistakes of our Federation. He expressed disappointment at Tardif’s weakness and called him an “opportunist” unable to face challenges.
Fetisov also emphasized that instead of blaming those who cannot cope with the tasks in the international arena, attention should be paid to the development of hockey in the country. He called for paying more attention to the development of hockey among children and in the KHL, saying that changes in the leadership of the IIHF do not guarantee an improvement in the quality of hockey.
The IIHF temporarily suspended the Russian and Belarusian teams from participation in competitions under its auspices in February 2022. Previously, it was reported that the IIHF provisionally included the Russian team in the list of participants in the group stage of the 2026 Olympic Games.
