Athletistic/Hockey. Last night, the Washington Capitals defeated the reigning Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights (3:0) in another NHL regular season game. During the meeting, a scandalous episode occurred involving the captain of the capital, Alexander Ovechkin.
At the start of the first period, Ovi received a dangerous blow to the neck from an opponent’s stick. As the 38-year-old Russian tried to take the puck from Braden McNabb, the Knights defenseman managed to give the puck to his teammate and at that point he raised his stick. After the hit, Ovechkin fell to the ice and a minute later returned to the bench. The referees initially decided to eject the Vegas player, but after a meeting they decided to reverse their initial decision and did not punish McNabb in any way.
In 14 matches of the current regular season, Alexander Ovechkin scored four goals and seven assists.
Washington has scored 18 points in 14 games and sits in fourth place in the NHL Eastern Conference standings.
