Kozhevnikov believes Ovechkin now deserves entry into the Hockey Hall of Fame

Two-time Olympic champion Alexander Kozhevnikov believes Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin deserves to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame now.

The ESPN portal believes that Ovechkin and Pittsburgh forward Sidney Crosby could be included in the Hockey Hall of Fame immediately after their careers.

“He deserves it 100%, there’s no need to even talk about it.” Let it finish, and they include it immediately. I’d put him in the Hall of Fame right now. He really is the greatest player. Of course, the rules change, but they still value their traditions. He undoubtedly deserved it,” Kojevnikov told Gazeta.ru.

Canadian Wayne Gretzky played his last NHL game in 1999, after which the selection committee announced that he would be the 10th player in league history not to wait three years after retirement to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. The committee was concerned that by eliminating the timeout for no reason, it would create a “god class.” It was then decided that the “quarantine” would only be lifted in “certain humanitarian circumstances”.

Ovechkin, 38, is the second-highest scorer in league history with 826 goals. According to this indicator, he is second only to Gretzky (894).
