Kovalchuk spoke about the possibility of playing the last match of his career for Spartak

Olympic hockey champion Ilya Kovalchuk said that from the point of view of history it would be wonderful to play for Moscow “Spartacus” the last match of my professional career.

Kovalchuk graduated from Spartak; he made his professional debut with the Red and Whites in 1999. The 40-year-old striker played his last match in 2021 for Avangard Omsk, but has not officially announced his retirement.

— How important is it for you to play for Spartak and end your career? Is this happy for you?

– Let’s wait now. It’s such a moment… It’s clear that it would be wonderful as a story. But the most important thing is to discuss with the head coach and the president of the club so that it is beneficial. Because now Spartak is moving and playing very well. And in this regard, the most important thing is their opinion. When I moved to Avangard in 2020, we had many conversations with Bob Hartley and Alexander Krylov. The image was clear to me. And I think we will meet here, talk and decide everything.

— The main thing for you is not to harm Spartak with your arrival?

“No, the main thing is to have fun and give it to the fans, to play with dignity,” the correspondent of reports Kovalchuk’s words.

Kovalchuk is a three-time Gagarin Cup winner, Olympic champion and two-time world champion.
