Retired player SKA bronze medalist of the USSR Championship Vasily Kamenev shared his opinion on the system of play of the military team, which the head coach of the team often talks about Romain Rotenberg .

— The SKA system is the team’s philosophy. As I understand it, this involves aggressive and offensive hockey. This is Roman Rotenberg’s system. There were problems in defense, individual errors, deletions. Now all this is removed and the system starts working. Spectacular hockey is the direction of SKA. Let’s say that Lokomotiv’s system involves a different game: strictly defensive, catching the opponent’s mistakes.
“Torpedo” under the direction of Igor Larionov tries to play equally spectacularly. They also do not go without breakdowns. Somehow we didn’t get a power play, we couldn’t defend ourselves and we lost points. Now the game is fine-tuning, everyone is preparing for the playoffs. We love SKA for its wonderful combined hockey, in which players can show their individual skills, as Tolchinsky and Glotov did. The team shows all this and attracts spectators to the stands.
— Is it more difficult to stage entertainment hockey than defensive hockey?
– Certainly. It turns out that the team spends more time attacking, everyone focuses on someone else’s goal. Any mistake – loss of puck, imprecise pass, ice interference – results in a counter-attack. No one is safe from this. There must therefore be perfect mutual understanding between the actors. The defender connects – someone must take his place. We see that the five movements of SKA around the offensive zone, the defenders are not standing on the blue line, everyone is ready to replace each other. When mutual understanding and synchronicity are developed, it will be very difficult for adversaries. Of course, this cannot be done without errors, but all this must be excluded.
— The emotions of the SKA players do not show that they do not want to play according to the Rotenberg system.
– There is no need to talk about it at all, to exaggerate. Then SKA would not transfer the opponent every game. There were just bad games, when the puck didn’t go into the goal, it was bad luck. We have to get through this,” Kamenev said, as quoted by RB Sport.
