Russian forward for the New York Rangers Artemy Panarin extended his own early-season scoring streak to 15 games in the NHL game against New Jersey.
Panarin scored a goal in the first period, scoring points in the 15th of 15 matches this season. Panarin broke the record for Russian NHL players – it was set by Dmitry Kvartalnov, the current head coach of Dynamo Minsk, when he played for Boston in the 1992-93 season.
Panarin also broke a club record: in the 1972/73 season, Rod Gilbert managed to score points in 14 consecutive matches at the start of the season. Currently, Panarin has scored 9 goals and made 16 assists this season.
The NHL record for longest scoring streak in the 21st century belongs to Dany Heatley and is 22 games.
