Athletistic / Hockey. Washington Capitals Russian captain Alexander Ovechkin says he and Canadian Sidney Crosby changed the National Hockey League (NHL).

Ovechkin was selected first overall in the 2004 NHL Draft. Crosby was the first overall pick in 2005. Additionally, both hockey players made their NHL debuts in the 2005/2006 season due to the lockout.

“Crosby and I saved the league. Now there’s a new generation. I think we’re already old. But we saved the NHL.

The Washington Capitals won their fifth consecutive NHL title by defeating the Buffalo Sabres.

Now the new generation must prove me wrong. They have to prove that we are not the best,” Ovechkin quotes, according to The Athletic.
