St. Petersburg SKA forward Alexander Galshenyuk told how the team managed to defeat Spartak Moscow in the regular season match of the Fonbet KHL Championship.
The meeting, held on Thursday in St. Petersburg, ended with a score of 3:2 in favor of the hosts. SKA won its seventh consecutive victory and is in fifth place in the Western Conference standings with 40 points.
— Only on the third attempt we managed to beat Spartak this season. Why is that?
“They play well, create chances and skate well. The main thing was to concentrate on my game. We also know who we are and what we can do. We pick up the pace, we believe in each other. The result was a victory in a combative and stubborn game.
— What moments of the game were key?
—I wouldn’t say we gave them much to create. We played tight in all areas, didn’t give up the initiative, played well in the minority and stuck to our line. But the main thing is to believe in yourself.
— By the way, SKA already has seven goals scored in the minority. What’s the secret ?
“The guys are working on that – they play intensely, energetically and create moments where the opponent doesn’t expect it,” Galchenyuk said, as quoted by RB Sport.
