Toronto goalie Ilia Samsonov recounted how he reacted to a substitution during the NHL regular season game against Tampa.
Samsonov was replaced after missing four goals in the 16th minute of the game against the Tampa Bay Lightning on November 6, which ended in a 6–5 overtime victory for the Maple Leafs.
— How did you feel after replacing in the game against Tampa in the first period, when you conceded three goals on four shots?
“I didn’t understand why this happened.” I’m not the type to hang around in training and not complete coaching assignments. This story doesn’t concern me. Such situations teach much more than winning matches. Now I would start winning and achieve nothing. I’m not talking about star fever, I’ve never had it, but we still wonder how we feel about life. You even start to philosophize,” Samsonov told Sport24.
This season, Samsonov, 26, has played in nine matches, shooting an average of 87.8%.
