The general director of the SKA Arena, Dmitry Svatkovsky, during a tour of the facilities for journalists, explained whether it was possible to organize an international match in the palace.
On December 9 and 10, 2023, the SKA Arena will host the Fonbet KHL All-Star Game 2023.
— Are Russian hockey team matches possible here?
— After our arena is included in the register of the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation, the Russian Hockey Federation will decide which teams will play here and when.
— Have innovative technologies been applied to ice filling?
— We respect the regulations of the KHL, these are universal standards put forward by the league. This also applies to security systems: we have more than 2,500 cameras with facial recognition.
— What inspired you when designing the arena?
— First of all, figure skating. If you pay attention to the facade, it appears to be made of patterns on ice. They inspired our architects to create an unusual facade design. And the interior design is inspired by the film “Young People in the Universe”: it’s history, space, sport.
— Can international matches take place in this arena?
— The story unfolds in a spiral. Now there is a cold between us and the IIHF, but it will melt and the international federations will turn to us. I know the international family very well. “I know a lot of people who want to renew relations with us,” reports the correspondent of according to Svatkovsky’s words.
SKA Arena is a multifunctional sports and cultural complex designed to host hockey competitions as well as public cultural and entertainment events. The Ice Palace is designed to accommodate more than 21,500 people at various hockey events (this is the largest hockey arena in the world) and up to 23,000 people at concerts. The arena will host the St. Petersburg SKA team, which plays in the KHL.
