Former defender of KHL clubs Nikita Shchitov believes that the Russian attacker Dmitry Voronkov can have a great career in the National Hockey League (NHL).
Earlier, Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekäläinen said Voronkov “was homesick and was considering returning to Russia.” On Monday, Columbus defeated the Boston Bruins at home with a score of 5:2 in a regular season match, Voronkov, along with three Russians Ivan Provorov, Kirill Marchenko and Egor Chinakhov scored a puck. After the match, the Russian striker said he would stay in the team.
“I’m very happy for our guys.” It’s great for our hockey and for the boys. The Russians obtain results and demonstrate the strength of our school in the NHL. As for Voronkov, there are many rumors about his poor adaptation. But this is not visible in the game. Dmitry plays very well. He’s a guy with character. Voronkov was never afraid of anyone in our league. With these dimensions, he will be able to have a great career in the NHL. He doesn’t need to rush back,” Shchitov said, as quoted by RB Sport.
