Athletistic/Hockey. Legendary Czech goaltender Dominik Hasek said the NHL is not interested in suspending Russian hockey players from its championship.

“To achieve this, we need the interest of the NHL management or the highest political leaders of the United States and Canada. I myself wrote a private letter to Gary Bettman at the beginning of the events in Ukraine. Then I wrote him a public letter. It was at the end of 2022, when I was in the European Parliament. I can insist more, but at the moment the NHL has no interest in disqualifying players Russian hockey players.

That is why I now condemn not only the Russian players, but above all the NHL, which allows them to play,” Hasek said, as quoted by the Slovak newspaper TVNOVINY.sk.

After the start of the special military operation (SVO) of the Russian armed forces on the territory of Ukraine, Dominik Hasek has repeatedly criticized Russia and its athletes. Recently, the Czech was outraged by the participation of nine Russians, as well as the eldest son of Alexander Ovechkin, in the 2023 NHL All-Star Game. He was also outraged by the presence of Belarusian tennis player Victoria Azarenka on the jury of one of the NHL All-Star Weekend competitions.
