Double Olympic hockey champion Vyacheslav Fetisov admitted that he expected the Russian national team to be admitted to the NHL international tournament in 2025.
Earlier, the executive director of the NHL Players’ Association (NHLPA), Marty Walsh, said that the Russian team, in all likelihood, would not participate in the league’s international tournament in 2025. Teams from Canada , Finland, Sweden and the United States are expected to participate in the tournament.
— How will the 2025 Hockey World Cup take place without our hockey players? The competition will probably fail?
– Nothing will fail. Well, there won’t be a Russian team. There are enough stars everywhere. Although, until recently, I believed that the NHL would respect this principle and give our team the opportunity to participate in a commercial tournament. I believed in it until the end. Of course, I was disappointed with this decision…
— Is this what the NHL does?
— Yes, the NHL does. I don’t know if it’s with the International Hockey Federation or not, but, in my opinion, it’s their tournament. Because the Canada Cup used to be their brewing company’s tournament… Sad, really. “I was a little upset in that regard,” Fetisov said according to KP Sport.
