“I believe that the Russian women’s hockey team should definitely go to the Olympics” – Anna Shokhina

Captain of the West team at the WHL All-Star Game Anna Chokhina told that she was looking forward to the return of Russian women’s hockey to the international stage.

The Eastern team defeated the Western team with a score of 5:4 in the all-star match of the Women’s Hockey League, which took place in Tula.

The goals for the Western team were scored by Landysh Falyakhova, Maria Polozkova, Elizaveta Shkaleva and Alexandra Nesterova. In the Eastern team, Maria Batalova made a double, Olga Sosina, Anna Shibanova and Veronika Korzhakova made a double.

The competition for the most spectacular shootout was won by Shokhina, who skated on the ice in a royal dress.

— How did you like your vacation in Tula?

“He’s something special.” For example, we were asked to bake gingerbread cookies. I really like it. The city welcomed us warmly and cordially. Many fans came to watch the hockey match. Thanks to those who supported us.

— What did you put in your “Empress” shootout? The fact that you are the top scorer in WHL history?

– Not certainly in this way. First of all, I really like the song “Empress” by Irina Allegrova. In addition, I played for Tornado near Moscow for a long time and after 11 years I moved from St. Petersburg to Dynamo Neva, and this is the city of empresses.

The club’s press officer helped me a lot with my outfit. And goalkeeper Daria Gredzen took on this role, thanks to her.

— Are they already targeting your record in the WHL? Shipachev can break Mozyakin’s record in the KHL.

– I think so – of course everyone wants to beat my record. But I’m still happy with it. Please knock. Cheers!

— Has the competition become higher this season in the WHL?

– Yes, I agree with that. “Tornado” fell apart a little, players changed clubs, other teams became stronger. The championship has therefore become even more interesting.

— Is there any hope that the Russian women’s team will participate in the 2026 Olympics?

– We really hope and wait. I think we have to go there so that women’s hockey develops more and more. I don’t know, we have to somehow fight this, do something and definitely go to the Olympics.

— Is it important for you to participate in international tournaments?

— It’s so important that I can’t even describe it. I really want women’s hockey in Russia to become even more interesting. We absolutely must participate in the World Championships and the Olympic Games. The Russian national team will become even stronger and everyone will benefit from this,” Shokhina told .

The IIHF suspended Russian teams from participation in competitions under its auspices at the end of February 2022.

Shokhina scored 540 (235+305) points in 265 WHL games during her career. This is the best result in the history of the league. Next come Olga Sosina (207+297=504 points in 289 matches), Elena Zaripova (105+248=353 in 240 matches), Valeria Pavlova (189+150=339 in 237 matches), Fanuza Kadirova (154+ 173=327 in 271 matches) and Landysh Falyakhova (124+183=307 in 284 matches).
