“I learned a lot from Kovarzh – nutrition, attitude to training” – Guardian of the Avtomobilist Galkin

Goalie “Motorist” Vladimir Galkin remembered the performance of the Czech goalkeeper for the Yekaterinburg club Jakuba Kovarza .

Kovarzh left Avtomobilist in 2021, he spent seven seasons in the KHL for Yekaterinburg.

— In recent years at Avtomobilist, which guard has helped you the most?

— I learned a lot from Jakub Kovarz – nutrition, attitude towards training. We communicated well and to this day I can call him. It was a really good time when he was on the team, and it’s amazing that it all happened so quickly. Even though I had normal relations with all the guards. There was never any misunderstanding with Dima Shikin or Igor Bobkov. I didn’t really communicate with Johan Mattsson because we had a language barrier.

— Did Kovarzh suggest a diet?

— Clear nutritional standards for athletes. As you get older, you start to understand that it really works. If you want to achieve serious results, you need to watch your diet and stay in shape.

– And how could the goalkeeper suggest something?

— During a match, I could suggest something when there was a break: watch someone carefully, play somewhere higher. If there were difficult times, he would tell me not to pay attention to them. He explained that the main thing is to endure and work, that not everything depends on the goalkeeper and that the team must also help him. When you’re 18-19, you worry about every puck and you think you can catch everything. With age, we already understand how everything happens.

— Was Kovarz very worried about the team’s result?

— In my opinion, over the years, the Avtomobilist has become like family to him. He gave so much strength and energy to the city, gave so much joy to the supporters. I was very worried about the game. When there were chances, but it was not possible to achieve a result, he became angry. But it was understandable: he had been playing in the KHL for so many years and wanted to achieve something.

— He asks how things are going at Avtomobilist?

— We rarely communicate. But if we call each other, he asks how things are going. In the summer I came to Yekaterinburg and saw all the guys. He still has a lot of friends here. He was a good goalkeeper, and it is clear that the club remembers him,” quotes RB Sport Galkin.
