Athletistic/Hockey. Noted journalist for Canadian publication Sportsnet, Sam McKee, has shared his opinion on Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin’s pursuit of Wayne Gretzky’s NHL regular season scoring record.

“I’ll just forget about it, I don’t care. I hated Ovechkin from the moment I watched the World Junior Championship in 2003! I was never a big fan of him. So I wouldn’t not that a Russian breaks. Gretzky’s record,” McKee said on the Sportsnet podcast.

Alexander Ovechkin has been playing in the NHL since the fall of 2005. He now ranks second on the list of best snipers in NHL history – the 38-year-old Russian has 827 goals. He is 67 shots behind Wayne Gretzky, who has 894 goals. This season, Ovechkin has only managed to score five goals in 22 matches.

Last night, Washington lost to the Arizona Coyotes with a score of 0:6 in an NHL regular season away game.
