Defender “Toronto” Jon Klingberg has retired for the remainder of the National Hockey League season due to injury, journalist David Alter reports, citing club general manager Brad Treliving.
According to Treliving, the hockey player will soon undergo surgery. On November 23, Klingberg was placed on the injured list and played his last match against Vancouver (5:2) on November 11.
Toronto is sixth in the Eastern Conference standings with 28 points. In the next match, the team will play away against Ottawa.
Klingberg is a two-time world champion with the Swedish national team. This summer, the hockey player signed a one-year contract with the Canadian team. The 31-year-old Swede played 14 regular season games for Toronto, during which he provided five assists.
