“It all depends on whether Fedotov will serve. And CSKA and FHR are silent. How will the “military story” of the goalkeeper of the Russian national team end?

– The main question of July – will the goalkeeper of CSKA and the Russian national team Ivan Fedotov have to serve a year in the armed forces?

“No one knows yet what is really going on with Fedotov”, notes Leonid Weisfeld. – There is a lot of news on this subject, but most of it comes from obscure sources and is often refuted. If you believe the Internet, it all depends on whether Ivan will serve. Although I would like to hear a clear and definitive verdict that Fedotov is a military man and was sent to this or that specific military unit. But even that does not yet exist.

– One has the impression that CSKA has absolutely nothing to do with this story. Apparently, this is a harsh stance of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation towards draft evaders. Demonstration that all are equal before the law.

— Not excluded. Although CSKA has such a powerful administrative resource that it can solve the problem with the staff anyway. Either way, the army team had to make some sort of official statement. They are even closer to this topic.

– So far, CSKA has only said that it has nothing to do with Fedotov’s call to the armed forces.

“Maybe so. But this guy won the Gagarin Cup for you a few months ago. You don’t want to witness his future fate? I think such participation in his fate would make sense, even if now he has no relationship with the club. Fedotov recently defended the gates of CSKA and was recognized as the best goalkeeper in the KHL. The club could show … well, at least curiosity, watching what is happening with Ivan.

– Yes, and FHR should connect. Nevertheless, we are talking about the goalkeeper of the Russian national team, who played at the Olympics in February. And well played.

“The situation is really strange. Everyone pretends it doesn’t concern them. Only the lazy does not discuss the situation with Fedotov, and the officials are silent. I want to receive information only from trustworthy sources – CSKA, KHL, FHR. Why, for example, Vladislav Tretiak did not actively join? After all, goalkeepers are just his subject, he cares about them especially. And then the goalkeeper of the national team risks interrupting his career…

– By the way, while serving in the Navy, Ivan can get access to secret military information and for many years will become “travel restrictions”. So is it possible to put an end to his career abroad?

– If I understand correctly, in order to gain access to something secret, you must first put your signature under the document. Fedotov, having a contract with Philadelphia in mind, is unlikely to voluntarily agree to this. In general, experts from the Ministry of Defense can give a clear answer to this. But if that really happens, then we can already assume that someone really wants to not let the goalie go to the NHL. Yet not all conscripts have access to something secret in our country.

What should Philadelphia do in this situation? The club is unlikely to make Fedotov escape from the country, like in 1989 “Buffalo” Mogilny. Times are not good.

– Let’s start with the fact that Mogilny was taken to the NHL not from a military unit, but from abroad, where he came as part of the USSR national team. Although at the same time he was officially a soldier and played for CSKA. Fedotov has no chance of being abroad in the current situation, as I understand it.

– If Fedotov is absent from hockey for a year, will his career be ruined?

– Everything is individual here. It happens that people miss a whole year because of an injury, healing it. And Fedotov is healthy, he has no injuries. How this will affect his skills and physiology, it is impossible to say in advance. But it is clear that such breaks in a career do not benefit anyone.

– It is important here that Fedotov did not have the opportunity not only to play, but also to train on the ice.

– When watching veteran matches, the difference in players unintentionally catches your eye. It happens that a person ended his career a few months ago, but goes out on the ice and seems to have never played at all. And there are those who haven’t worn skates for five years, and then they get up and are in perfect condition. Breaks affect people in different ways.
