The head coach SKA Romain Rotenberg said the club plans to hold this season’s KHL playoff games at the Ice Palace and not the new SKA Arena.
This season, SKA is performing at the Palais de Glace. A new SKA Arena with a capacity of 21,500 spectators was recently opened in Saint Petersburg. It hosted the KHL All-Star Game. Earlier, Chairman of the SKA Board of Directors Alexander Medvedev said that the club was considering moving to the SKA Arena for the KHL playoffs.
— What do you think about SKA moving to the SKA Arena for the playoffs? This is what the chairman of the club’s board of directors, Alexander Medvedev, has just said.
– We have not yet discussed this issue. Here we need to sort out all the details. From what I understand, we are playing the playoffs at the Ice Palace. Because everything here is native, it’s our home ice advantage. To win, we must have our own platform. It is necessary to spend from the beginning of the season, organizing training camps and pre-season tournaments. Here, in Lédovoye, each millimeter of ice is unique. This is why we work here. The atmosphere here is ours and we have to start playing in the new arena from the start of the season.
There is such a practice – Omsk Avangard, Novosibirsk Sibir and all other teams have moved since the start of the season. And then calmly get used to the new arena. This will happen if the authorities decide so.
— But is this discussed at the SKA?
– We always discuss everything. But the Ice Palace is our home ground. Everything’s going good here. We’ve been working for years to ensure we have our home-field advantage here. You can see it for yourself with our results. For example, last year we set a home winning record. This has never happened in the entire history of SKA. And this season, we are also moving in this direction, with a string of victories. So you have to study everything in detail, it’s very important. No need to move from side to side. Sudden movements are absolutely not necessary. We have to analyze everything, weigh it, then make a decision,” reports a correspondent, reporting Rotenberg’s words.
