Losing 1:4, the blue-yellows managed to make a super comeback
Ukrainian youth hockey team in overtime won an incredible strong-willed victory over her peers from Italy in the third round of the group stage Division 1B of the 2023 World Championship – 5:4.
Andrei Sryubko’s team quickly conceded, but during the first period they managed to come back through the efforts of Ilya Krykli. The real test for the Ukrainian team came in the second segment of the game. The Italians scored three goals in five minutes and led 4:1.
But the young Ukrainians did not give up and made an impressive comeback. Its main hero was Nikita Sidorenko, who reduced the gap to a minimum and scored the winning goal in overtime. We also note the contribution to the triumph of his two teammates on the Dnieper – the aforementioned Krykli and Sergei Stetsyura.
The victory in overtime allowed the blue-yellows to score 8 points. They are second in their group, 1 point behind the hosts, the Slovenian youth team. Only first place in the group, according to the regulations, will allow our team to move up in class.
Let us remind you that in the first two rounds, Ukraine U-20 won two victories with the same score of 5:1 – over Poland and Estonia.
By the end of the week, Sryubko’s team will play two more matches as part of the World Cup. On Friday, December 15, the Ukrainian youth team will compete with Croatia. On December 17, our U-20 team will meet with the youth team of Slovenia.
