The head coach “Toronto » Sheldon Keefe said goalkeeping coach Curtis Sanford dissuaded him from switching to Russian goalie Ilya Samsonova during the NHL regular season game against Columbus.
Toronto trailed after two periods with a score of 0:5, but managed to send the match to overtime, where they still lost – 5:6. Samsonov reflected 29 of 35 shots in this match.
“Curtis was adamant that Sammy had to stay in goal. “I’m happy we made this decision,” Keefe said on TSN.
Sanford, 44, has experience in Russia, where he played for Lokomotiv Yaroslavl.
