“Fedotov and CSKA can now appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne” – Director General of the FHR

General Director of the Russian Hockey Federation (RHF) Dmitry Kurbatov, in an interview with , explained what the decision of the Disciplinary Council of the International Hockey Federation (IIHF), which rejected the appeals, means. Ivan Fedotova And CSKA .

In August, Fedotov was suspended for four months for signing a contract with CSKA Moscow despite an existing deal with the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers. In addition, CSKA was subject to one-year sanctions from August 11 – the club cannot carry out transactions on the international market. The club and player contested this decision and the IIHF Disciplinary Council upheld the sanctions. The goaltender continues to take the ice during KHL matches, despite the IIHF ban.

— The Disciplinary Council of the International Hockey Federation rejected the appeals of CSKA and Ivan Fedotov against the decision of the IIHF. How would you comment on this?

— Fedotov’s appeal was filed by the player himself, CSKA’s appeal was filed by the club itself. The Russian Hockey Federation has filed an appeal against two IIHF decisions, which specifically concern the FHR. But nothing has been announced about them yet. Fedotov and CSKA can now appeal to the next instance, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne. The applicant has 21 days to do so. This is a technical point. In other words, Fedotov and CSKA have two options: either they accept the decision of the IIHF disciplinary committee, or they challenge it. That’s all.

— What will happen if our side simply ignores what the IIHF decides?

— It’s difficult for me to say, because since September, the KHL has effectively refused to comply with the IIHF’s decision. This is another story, which leads to the next violation on the part of the league, according to the international federation,” Kurbatov told .

In the summer of 2022, Fedotov signed a rookie contract with the NHL club Philadelphia Flyers, but he was called up for military service. At the end of his service, he signed a two-year deal with CSKA, which was registered by the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) in July.

This season, 27-year-old Fedotov played 23 matches for CSKA and won 12 victories with a reliability coefficient of 2.11 and 91.7% reflected shots.
