Russian hockey player banned from playing in North American student league

Russian defender Artem Duda received a performance ban from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the organization’s press service reports.

Duda graduated from CSKA, but left the Russian team, despite having a current two-year contract with the Moscow club.

Duda, drafted 36th overall by Arizona in the second round of the 2022 NHL Draft, is taking classes in Maine and is expected to play for the local college team. However, the NCAA leadership rejected the hockey player’s request to play for the Black Bears.

Before that, Duda, 19, had only trained with the University of Maine team.
