Defender of Nizhny Novgorod “Torpedo” Bogdan Konushkov believes the team has the potential to win the Gagarin Cup in the 2023/24 season.
Last season, Torpedo lost to SKA Saint Petersburg in the second round of the Gagarin Cup with a score of 0-4.
— What can you expect from Torpedo in the second part of the championship?
— We will also promote offensive, daring and aggressive hockey at Torpedo. I don’t think anything will change much. We’ll just look a little further ahead – towards the playoffs. We need to improve the discipline a little.
— Do the hockey players themselves like the team’s style of play?
“We are both enjoying the game, as are the spectators.” It’s not for nothing that there is such an atmosphere in the ice palace. Everyone likes it, even if we lose, because they see that we are trying and that we are not playing lightly.
— Many believe that Torpedo should pay more attention to defense in order to achieve something in the playoffs.
— Everything must be balanced and harmonious, but the priority will always be attack, because during the last playoffs and this season we proved that this hockey works.
— After the last playoffs, are there anything left unsaid?
— We went through too much emotion when we passed the first round. Even if we have our eyes on the Cup and the work is not done yet. There weren’t enough emotions, but in terms of the game, I can’t say that we lost, more mentally.
— Do you feel strong enough to surpass last season’s results?
– Yes. Let’s not waste our time on the results of the previous year. The first round, the second round, it’s not the ceiling for us. Our team has good potential. We can compete for the Cup,” Konyushkov said, as quoted by RB Sport.
Torpedo is fourth in the Western Conference standings with 51 points.
