Ukrainian youth will again spend the next season in division 1B
Ukrainian youth hockey team in the decisive battle for first place in the group Division 1B of the 2023 World Championship conceded Slovenia – 3:5.
The stakes were as high as possible. The winner of the group received a ticket to Division 1A. Loser – nothing.
Slovenia, playing at home, won the first period minimally, and at the very start of the second they doubled the score. But Andrei Sryubko’s team rallied and staged a comeback – by the end of the period the blue-yellows were already in the lead, and Nikita Sidorenko scored another point (goal + assist).
Alas, there were not enough young Ukrainians for the key segment of the match. In the third period, the hosts scored three unanswered goals and won the match, and with it the entire group.
Thus, it was Slovenia U-20 that received the only ticket to the top class based on the results of the championship. The Ukrainian youth team, with four victories and one defeat, finished the 2023 World Cup in second place in the sextet. Next season will be our team’s 12th in a row in Division 1B.
Little consolation was the title of the group’s top scorer, which was received by the aforementioned Sidorenko. He has the most goals scored (8), as well as points using the “goal + pass” system (12).
