Ottawa, for which Russians Tarasenko and Zub play, announced the resignation of its head coach

club NHL Ottawa Senators officially announced the resignation of DJ Smith as head coach.

The 46-year-old specialist has led the team since May 2019. Jacques Martin, 71, was named interim head coach, assisted by former Ottawa captain Daniel Alfredsson, who spent 18 years at the club.

The new coaching staff will lead the team into the next NHL regular season game against Arizona on December 20.

Ottawa’s roster this season includes Russian forward Vladimir Tarasenko (6+13 in 24 games) and defenseman Artem Zub (2+6 in 19 games played this season).

Ottawa occupies last place in the Eastern Conference standings with 22 points.
