Former Spartak Moscow and SKA Saint Petersburg striker Maxim Rybin shared his memories of working with Milos Rzhiga and said that the Czech specialist was the most interesting coach.
Riga managed Spartak from 2007 to 2010 and twice took the team to the Gagarin Cup quarterfinals. The coach worked with the St. Petersburg club in 2011-2013, under his leadership the team twice reached the semifinals of the playoffs. Riga died in August 2020.
— I remember Rzhiga often and only with kind words. Truly the most interesting coach, who always had different training, exercises and approaches to hockey players. What did I learn from him and use? It’s psychology. Speak, explain, convey some nuances. Even when something doesn’t work for you, you believe in your strength. He had this great trait: he always came, listened and helped. I remembered it for the rest of my life.
I remember when I was captain, he would come and yell at me, then cautiously approach and apologize. He said that’s how he started the team through the leader. And I sat there and didn’t understand anything, and the game seemed to work. A very interesting method to influence the team through the captain.
I tried to pay attention not to the weak link, but to the strong link. We turned the game around with Barys at one point, during the match we lost 0:3 by one wicket, but in the end we won 4:3,” Rybin told Legalbet.
