Dynamo Moscow striker Artem Ilyenko expressed his opinion on the limit imposed on foreign players in the Kontinental Hockey League.
In December 2022, the Ministry of Sports approved strengthening the limits on foreign players in the KHL. From the 2023/24 season, Russian clubs cannot include more than three foreigners in their match requests.
— I think that the KHL is evolving and developing only in the right direction. We’ve increased the number of matches, and any player will tell you that playing is always better than training. After all, we train to play. This year, there will be cross-playoffs starting in the second round. It’s interesting. This format will add something new for spectators and players.
What do you think about the most discussed topic in Russian hockey: the limit imposed on foreign players? There must be a limit. Three or five people, it’s up to the league itself to decide. But in general, there should be a limit for young players to join the team and have the chance and opportunity to prove themselves,” Ilyenko was quoted as saying by the Championship.
In December it became known that KHL clubs would be asked about increasing the number of foreign players in their application, after which a decision would be made.
