Athletistic/Hockey. Former head coach of the Russian national team Vyacheslav Bykov predicted when Russian teams will be able to return to the international stage. Since March 2022, the IIHF has not allowed the national teams of Russia and Belarus to participate in the world championships.

“As soon as Russia achieves a certain result in the Northern Military District and everything ends in our favor, this will immediately reflect on all sports issues. This also applies to hockey. No matter how they say that sport is outside of politics”, these are just conversations. Everything is linked, everything is intertwined. The dependence of international sports federations on politics is extremely great.

It’s a shame and a shame for the guys that the younger generation cannot compare their potential with that of young people from Western countries. But crying in a corner is not our principle. We must look for solutions, and for this there are great people responsible for sport and the FHR. These are the people who must seek opportunities for young people to continue their development. I’m talking about all teams – there is no difference in age or gender,” Bykov quotes the Championship.

In March 2022, the IIHF decided not to allow Russian national and club teams to participate in international competitions due to security concerns. This decision applies to all Russian teams, regardless of the age and gender of the athletes.
