The Russian striker for Washington Alexander Ovechkin beat the Canadian Jerome Iginla and took 68th place on the list of the best assistants in the history of the National Hockey League (NHL).
On Thursday, in the regular season match against the New York Islanders (3:2 OT), the Russian scored an assist, which became his 676th in the league. Iginla has 675 assists. First place goes to Wayne Gretzky (1963), second place to Ron Francis (1249), third place to Mark Messier (1193).
Washington scored 36 points and ranks eighth in the Eastern Conference standings.
