Russian striker “Pittsburgh” Yevgeny Malkin is set to become an unrestricted free agent. The striker can enter the free agent market from tomorrow as the club cannot agree with the player to extend the contract.
Edition The Athletic expects the parties to fail to reach an agreement. TSN hockey correspondent Darren Draeger expressed the same sentiment on social media.
Malkin was selected by Pittsburgh in the 2004 NHL Draft with the second overall pick. The striker has been defending the colors of the team since 2006, in the regular season he played a total of 981 games, scoring 1146 (444 + 702) points.
As part of the Penguins, Malkin became a three-time Stanley Cup winner (2009, 2016, 2017).
