Athletistic / Hockey. Head coach of the Ukrainian national hockey team Dmitry Khristich explained why there are no protests against Russian hockey players in the NHL.

“I can’t answer that question for you. I know that in February-March 2022, there were precedents in Washington where people just wanted to bring Ukrainian or Russian flags to the game, but they were prohibited from doing so.

The NHL is a big machine that lives on its own. She should protect herself from politics. This is why they will not authorize any political action. I don’t know how they can create these protests and where. It’s easy on the street, but for what and in front of whom? The NHL has its own policy that it follows. They don’t even talk about this topic,” Khristich was quoted as saying by Ukrainian media.

Dmitry Khristich graduated from Sokol kyiv. In 1990, he moved to the NHL, where he played for the Washington Capitals, Los Angeles Kings, Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs. He finished his playing career at Metallurg Magnitogorsk. After that, he worked as a coach-analyst at Traktor Chelyabinsk and Amur Khabarovsk.
