Goalie “Spartacus” Patrick Rybar appreciated the performance of the Olympic champion Ilya Kovalchuk during the first game after returning to the ice.
On Sunday, Spartak defeated Kunlun Red Star in the regular season match of the Fonbet KHL Championship with a score of 5:2. For Kovalchuk, this meeting was the first after his return to the KHL. The 40-year-old forward has not played professional hockey since winning the Gagarin Cup with Avangard as captain in April 2021.
“He hasn’t played in two and a half years, but he played very well. Ilya is still in good shape. I hope it helps us.
I haven’t spoken to him yet. Kovalchuk is an incredible person. He has a lot of experience,” Rybar said, as quoted by RB Sport.
