Athletistic/Hockey. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s proposal to limit the possibility of young hockey players traveling abroad has provoked a reaction from the Slovak newspaper Pravda. The article notes that Russian hockey has returned to practices from the Iron Curtain era. At the time, players from communist countries were not allowed to join the world’s top hockey leagues until they were thirty. Before a possible departure abroad, they had to demonstrate their abilities in their country of origin, both at home and within the national team.

The article also notes that this restriction could be the reason why many hockey players chose to emigrate in order to have the opportunity to play in the world leagues sooner.

In October, President Putin instructed the Russian Hockey Federation and the country’s Sports Ministry to examine the issue of hockey “dealers” taking young hockey players abroad.
