On the night of December 29 Moscow time, the forward scored a hat-trick in the NHL championship match against the Montreal Canadiens. The match ended with a score of 5:3 in favor of Carolina.

The second star of the day was Edmonton Oilers goalie Stuart Sinner. He scored a shutout in the match against the San Jose Sharks (5:0), stopping 25 shots on goal.
